OUR CURRENT PROJECT

More than vegetables will grow here

The new Sueniños educational garden is designed as a living space for learning, experience and community for children, young people and families in Chiapas.

Together with our partner Sueniños, we support children and young people in Chiapas. After visiting the project in person, we have complete confidence in Sueniños and its work.

EDUCATION, NATURE & COMMUNITY

Why an educational garden?

The garden combines practical learning with healthy food, nature and community. Children and young people will sow, tend and harvest, take responsibility and experience directly that their actions make a difference.

WE WERE THERE

From today’s site to a shared vision

During our visit in summer 2026, we walked through the current garden with Sueniños and discussed its future development. This is where a living space for education, experience and community will take shape step by step.

Our visit to Sueniños in summer 2026

The site today

The partly rocky and sloping site first needs safe paths and prepared areas. RunToMexico will help start with the lower part of the garden and make it usable for activities as quickly as possible.

THE PROJECT, EXPLAINED IN PERSON

Christian and David explain the educational garden on site

Christian from Sueniños and David from RunToMexico show what the current garden is intended to become – and why this place matters for the children and young people.

STEP BY STEP

Three stages that build on each other

01

1. Safe infrastructure & access

Prepare the site, create safe paths and secure critical areas.

02

2. Growing areas & equipment

Create planting tables, raised beds, nursery areas, garden tools and suitable irrigation.

03

3. Education, circularity & sustainable use

Connect the garden, kitchen and educational programmes, share knowledge about nutrition and sustainability, and return organic materials meaningfully to the natural cycle.

A CYCLE WITHIN SUENIÑOS

From garden to plate – and back again

The Sueniños kitchen prepares around 400 nutritious meals every week. Organic kitchen waste can be composted and returned to the garden as a valuable source of nutrients.

What does your donation achieve?

The educational garden creates more than new growing areas. It gives children and young people a place to learn, shape their environment and experience their own ability to make a difference.

Self-efficacy

A seed planted by a child becomes something visible through their own care.

Responsibility

Caring for plants, using tools and taking shared responsibility for a place.

Knowledge

Understanding food, plants, soil, water and natural cycles through hands-on experience.

Community

Working together, learning from one another and creating a protected place for connection.

Our current fundraising goal for the planned construction stage is CHF 10,000. We have already raised CHF 9,200 – help us close the final CHF 800 gap.
